What is Motivation and Facing Interview
The act of encouraging someone to achieve their goals is called Motivation. The word Motivation is derived from ‘motive’. According to Berelson and Steiner, “Motive is an internal condition that communicates energy to move forward and also directs the nature to achieve goals. “Motivation is a general process that applies to all kinds of desires, needs, wishes, etc. (Scot) According to Scott, “Motivation as a process of stimulating people to action to accomplish desired goals.” Importance of motivation ): Motivation is a very important function of the management system.
The morale of the employees remains high due to motivation. It helps in achieving the goals of one’s own organization in a cost-effective and efficient manner. It promotes the feeling of mutual cooperation. Increases the production capacity of the organization. The employees of any organization are physically, mentally and technically fit to work, but many times they are not able to give the desired results because they are not very enthusiastic about the work. This shows that the performance of the employees does not depend only on their ability but also on their motivation i.e. their dedication and enthusiasm towards work. Advantages of Motivation:
Motivation has the following benefits.
(I) It increases the production efficiency of the employees.
(2) A good image of the company comes in front of everyone.
(4) increases the morale of the group.
(3) Satisfies the needs of the employees by meeting them.
(5) Increases discipline among the employees.
(6) Increases employer-employee relationships
(7) Accepts changes in the organization.
(8) Reduces absenteeism of employees. Techniques of motivation:
Following are the main techniques of motivation:-
(i) Use of money as a motivator: Money is one of the main factors for fulfilling the needs of any individual. . Good salary, financial incentives etc. play an important role in motivation. Money is an essential tool in meeting basic psychological needs.
(ii) Job enlargement: Increase in the number and variety of tasks increases the enthusiasm of the employees. Continuously doing the same type of work reduces the boredom (Dullness).
(iii) Job enrichment: This technique of motivation was developed by Hijsberg through his Motivation hygiene theory. The job should be designed in such a way that it inspires to achieve something new, responsibility, innovation and move forward. It means that there should be a challenge in doing work and there should be knowledge of one’s responsibility.
(iv) Worker’s Participation in management: In some countries, the idea has now developed that there should be some participation of workers in the management system. Factors determining motivation: Performance (P) is a function of each person’s ability (Ability-A), knowledge (Knowledge-K) and motivation (Motivation-M). It can be shown as follows: P = M (A + K) Human Needs: Money is required to fulfill all human needs. People do jobs only for money. They make their efforts and earn money. A person has various needs to fulfill which he works hard and earns money. These different needs are as follows:
(i) Primary needs or physiological needs: These are the basic needs of every individual which are necessary for the survival of the individual such as food, clothing, place to live, air, water etc.
(ii) Secondary needs: These needs are as follows:-
(a) Safety and security needs: Once the basic needs are satisfied, a person thinks about the physical and financial security of himself and his family. Is . (b) Social needs: Every person wants to share his feelings with someone. He needs love and affection from others.
(c) Esteem needs: These needs are related to our respect, our position in the society, prestige etc. A person would hardly be able to satisfy these needs.
(d) Self-realization (Fulfillment needs); As a person builds his career and fulfills his other needs, similarly he sets a goal in his life. He wishes to do something in life which is different and challenging. Motivation and facing interview • Needs are unlimited. As soon as one need of a person is satisfied, another one appears. If the needs of the employees are being fulfilled, then their morale remains high. It motivates them to work well. It awakens the will power to do the work with mind and passion. It increases the spirit of mutual cooperation and productivity. In short, while meeting the needs of the employees, the organizational and personal goals can be achieved efficiently and with the least expenditure. Interview: “Interview” is usually a discussion between two parties, which both parties do about the deal that they can complete. Generally interview is related to employment in which an employer then ascertains whether the applicant is suitable for the work of the organization and the applicant tries to know whether this job is suitable for his present And will it be good for future or not? Interviewing is a skill.
The interview process begins with the objectives of the interview. Keeping in view the objectives of the interview, the interviewer prepares an agenda and ensures that the applicant lives up to it. After setting the agenda, it is decided that who should attend the interview, if more people attend the interview,
then there will be a problem of mutual coordination and communication, and thus there will be a need that the purpose of the interview and the purpose of the interview should be given to each applicant. (ii) Single Questions
Under open questions, the applicant is expected to give details and he is asked such questions that he should answer them in detail as if an applicant If he tries to know about his new job, his question will be “How do you feel about the new job”, then a detailed answer should come from the applicant. Open questions begin with the words “How”, “Why” or “What”. It is also important to ask single questions. In asking double, triple or more questions, there is a high possibility of forgetting the main question for both the interviewee and the interviewer. Example of triple question is “ What is your experience with that programming language and do not you think it’s very hard to learn ? I used it a long time ago but I think it’s just been upgraded. Am I right? Where should the applicant start now?
